Professor Ismail won several prestigious awards including the University College London Dean’s award for teaching and the Stoke and North Staffordshire Citizens of the year Innovation in Medical Technology and Development award.

The main focus of his research programme is the prediction, recognition and management of childbirth-related perineal trauma.

Khaled Ismail is internationally recognised for his clinical expertise in the field of perineal trauma following childbirth. He has been involved in developing specialised multidisciplinary services and national quality improvement programmes to improve outcomes for women who sustain this type of trauma. His collaborative work in this area has resulted in several systematic reviews and clinical trials that informed evidence based medicine and its implementation into practice.

Professor Ismail is the Chair of the European Perineal Trauma PEERS group.
