Pearl Kowlessar-Manoo qualified as a general nurse in Trinidad in 1996 at the College of Nursing before working as a Junior Sister and Scrub nurse in charge of the main operating theatre. Moving to the UK in 1999, she completed the Midwifery programme at South Bank University before working on postnatal and antenatal wards at Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust. From there, she has worked as a Maternity Helpline Advisor, Interim Risk Midwife, and Delivery Suite Coordinator.

Pearl is currently the Interim Midwifery Led Matron for the Barking Birth Centre and co-located Birth Centre and Postnatal Ward at Newham. She is also the Governance Service Lead for Women’s Health CAG at Newham and works closely with the Patient Safety Team and other multidisciplinary groups to raise the profile of maternity and improve patient experience and outcomes.
