Alison started her career with Sun Alliance Insurance as a graduate trainee specialising in claims. After completing her training programme, she held a number of posts with the insurer handling large and complex UK and overseas liability claims. Alison then moved to British Gas (BG) where she became responsible for the company’s world-wide insurance programme. At BG her achievements included launching the sale of customer related insurance products in gas showrooms and restructuring the claims function and insurance programme to facilitate the break-up and international growth of the business. She was an executive director of BG captive insurance companies in the Isle of Man and worked closely with the UK, European and Bermudan energy insurance markets.
Alison joined the NHS Litigation Authority (NHS LA) in 1999 where as Risk Management Director she was responsible for the strategic development, implementation, maintenance, delivery and communication of a comprehensive programme of standards, assessments and education for NHS and independent sector organisations providing NHS care in England which aimed to minimise the number and value of claims, thereby contributing to improvements in patient and staff safety. Alison also managed all in-house risk management activities, including information governance and business continuity, ensuring that the NHS LA had a sound system of internal control to support the achievement of corporate objectives.
Since leaving the NHS LA in February 2013 Alison has been using her experience, knowledge and skills to assist Baby Lifeline.
Alison has presented at numerous events, is the author of several articles on claims and managing risk, and was Project Manager for the NHS LA report on “Ten Years of Maternity Claims” published in October 2012.
