Dr Kathryn Martinello

Locum Consultant Neonatologist, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

Kathryn Martinello is a Locum Consultant Neonatologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London.

She trained at the University of Adelaide Medical School in Adelaide, Australia. She was the awarded the Obstetrics and Gynaecology prize in her final examination and graduated in 2008.

Kathryn completed her Basic Paediatric physicians training in Australia in 2012 and achieved her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, specialising in Perinatal and Neonatal medicine in 2016. She completed the majority of her subspecialty training in Australia, finishing in the UK at University College London Hospital.

From 2015 to early 2019 Kathryn completed a neonatal clinical and research fellowship at University College London Hospital and the Institute for Women’s Health, University College London.

She has been employed as a Locum Consultant Neonatologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital since April 2019. She is the lead consultant for simulation training, clinical guidelines and infection control.

Kathryn has a Certificate in clinician performed ultrasound (CCPU advanced cranial and basic echocardiography), and is a qualified assessor for Griffith’s Development scale and Prechtl General Movements.

Kathryn has a clinical interest in neonatal neurology and neurocritical care. She is currently completing her PhD focused on therapies for term neonates with hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy. She has presented at a number of national and international conferences.

Kathryn has held honorary contracts with both the University of Adelaide and University College London for the teaching of medical and science students. She has previously worked as a clinical skills tutor. She is a master trainer for Helping Babies Breathe neonatal resuscitation.
