Alison James is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Midwifery at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Plymouth University where she has worked for the past eleven years. Her teaching interests are varied and include the care of women with complex pregnancies, intrapartum complications and care of the acutely ill woman.  Prior to working in education Alison worked as a senior midwife on the Delivery Suite of a busy Obstetric Unit in the South West of England. She is currently writing up her PhD research examining obstetric high dependency care provision.
