This two-day intensive course is designed for community midwives, and addresses
the need for confident decision-making in complex situations in various
non-obstetric settings, where the responsibility rests with the community
midwife as the most senior clinician in attendance.
This unique programme includes:

Expert speakers on normality in the community setting, planning and preparation, risk assessment, issues surrounding the use and authorization of drugs, plus record keeping and supervision.

Practical group work to produce plans in low, medium and high risk scenarios and to adapt hospital guidelines and protocols for community use.

Workshops on neonatal and maternal resuscitation, taught in a home-setting with midwives’ own equipment.

Human factors module covering the cognitive aspects of decision-making and the situational awareness early warning signs, designed to enhance confidence whilst reducing risk.
